Today (15.12.2018) is four years since Tim Peake launched to the International Space Station (ISS) – becoming the first British ESA astronaut and the second British citizen (after Helen Sharman) to go to space.
On the 15th December 2015 – Tim took the most exhilarating ride of his life, lifting off on a Russian Soyuz rocket with Russian commander Yuri Malenchenko and US astronaut Tim Kopra.
Dallas Campbell reported live from the launch in Kazakhstan.
Professor Brian Cox and Dara O Briain presented live coverage of British astronaut Tim Peake’s arrival at the International Space Station, at the Science Museum in London. They were joined by astronauts including former ISS commander Chris Hadfield and Helen Sharman.
Since his Principia Mission, Tim has done many tours/talks, attended events, took on the role as a Scout ambassador, writing books and much more.
Young people have been inspired by Tim’s Principia Mission – they may not have had the interest in space subjects before, especially from a scientific or mathematical point of view, but have been drawn in through a number of different ways, such as competitions, challenges and experiments!
Congratulations Tim on all of your fantastic achievements!
In a unique collaboration with the World Museum Liverpool we were proud to run our drop-in ‘Magical Illusions’ workshops and a Galactic Quiz with prizes at their spectacular stargazing event – 8th November 2019.
Visitors to our stand made phenomenal STEM Spinning Tops – while learning the science behind them.
In addition to our STEM Spinning Tops, visitors to our stand also made Hoop Gliders – while learning the science behind them – which they got to take home!
Our Galactic Quiz with prizes was very popular…
We were also very pleased to have recorded the 3rd episode of MajorTim.space’s Polymath Cerebration Podcast on stage with Dr Jackie Bell, the Stargazing evening’s celebrity guest – announcement will be made when it is available to download.
Afterwards young blogger, Arran (age 10) came across to meet our CEO, Amelia Piper (below).
Watch out for this new blogger & his kids blog!
Visitors to our stand at the event included Dulcie (below) – winner – signed copy of Dallas Campbell’s book in our Apollo raffle (July 2019).
Before, Dulcie was sure she didn’t want to be an astronaut, but after reading the book Dallas has convinced her!
Our workshops were very popular and all visitors has a fantastic time!

After an extremely popular and successful workshop in 2018, MajorTim.space once again held their annual Space is the Place event – this year at Penrhyn New Hall, Penrhyn Bay in North Wales on 27th October 2019.
An incredible mix of Space and STEM – the workshop once again proved popular with all participants.
This year Space is the Place had an even more startastic line-up of activities with the highlight being an inspirational talk by BBC TV presenter & author, Dallas Campbell (Sky at Night, The Gadget Show, Bang Goes the Theory etc) who brought along his incredible replica of Neil Armstrong’s Iconic A7L Apollo Spacesuit.
We also had a delightful surprise – Climate Scientist, Dr Tamsin Edwards travelled from London to join in the Space/STEM Q&A with Dallas Campbell.
“Space is the Place 2019 was a fantastic event because it engaged local kids and gave them a wide window of science & technology that helps all our lives” – Dallas Campbell
Dallas Campbell and Dr Tamsin Edwards attending the event is a first for North Wales.
Along with the chance to meet our special guests, the participants also took part in a range of engaging experiments and activities led by MajorTim.space’s CEO/founder/manager – Amelia Piper. These included chemistry, Tardigrade Exploration, the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Suspension Bridge activity, Pinhole Cameras, space quiz and much more.
The day was a mega success – all the participants were fully engaged all day with hands-on activities.
Dallas held an Origami competition with the children to represent how astronauts for space missions in spaceflight history had to practise Origami skills – the winner was 8 year old, Catrin Moore who received the prize – an actual copy of a NASA astronaut application form – no need for 3 guesses to what her future career will be!
MajorTim.space held an exciting competition throughout the day – BEST IDEA FOR INVENTIONS FOR THE FUTURE Awards.
Dallas Campbell and Dr Tamsin Edwards judged the competition and picked the winners…
1st Prize – Rex London Introductory Microscope
Winner – Catrin Moore (age 8).

Amelia Piper CEO/founder/manager MajorTim.space said “All attendees had a fantastic time, I couldn’t be happier with the feedback from children & parents, which has been tremendous. Was lovely that the participants kept asking us to make Space is the Place a weekly occurrence! It is incredibly important that we inspire the next generation to reach for the stars.
I’m very proud that MajorTim.space achieved this incredible first for North Wales.
